Mike Bercaw. I was born and raised in Waynesboro and have been lucky enough to come back here where I work as a counselor at the Waynesboro Area Middle School (WAMS). I’m also a Track & Field coach and volunteer my time in the fall to run a Cross Country Club at WAMS. I am married to a wonderful woman and I am the father of three beautiful little girls. I’ve been running since I was playing soccer in high school but really didn’t start “running” until I was trying to get in shape for basic training and I didn’t start racing until 2001. I’ve run a number of races over this 10+ year period from 5K – Marathons. I’ve run road races and trail races, I’ve run in the mountains and the desserts and during the day and at night. I like the challenge of a new distance or course in which to race but seem to mostly have the time to train for 10milers – 13.1 distances at this point in my life. I do however aspire to tackle the JFK and to smoke some of my younger friends that I run with (against) on the Army Ten Miler every year.
Hello, I’m Dirk Helfrick. I started running in February 2009 to get in shape and just fell in love with the sport. I had a son at the age of 38 and wanted to be sure I could remain an active and involved father as he grew up, so I decided it was time to engage in some sort of physical activity. I chose running and signed up for an April 2009 5K so I wouldn’t lose motivation. I lost weight and loved how I had more energy, stamina and just a better general feeling of well being. I currently run about 25 miles per week and weigh about 30 lbs less than when I started. I have run a variety of races on roads and trails including 5K’s, 15K’s and Half Marathons. I aspire to compete in longer races such as full marathons and possibly some trail 50K’s.
My name is Misty R. Lowman. I have lived in Martinsburg, WV for the last 11 years. I work at Internal Medicine Specialists in Winchester, VA. I have two boys age 4 and 9. After always working out since age 17, I decided in Dec. 2009 that I would start running outside after a injury from running on the treadmill. Then started running races in 2010 and realized that I really love running and running in races of all kinds from 5-k’s to marathons. I’ve done over 20 5-k’s, close to 10 10-k’s, more than 10 half marathon’s, and 3 marathons with my fourth being next month in Febuary in Myrtle Beach, SC. My future goals in running is running a ultra or the JFK 50, and ofcourse increasing my speed in all races.
John Weaver, I live in Altoona with my wife Ellen, our son Zion and our daughter Zoe. I am currently an electrician for Miller Electric and the associate pastor at Hope Community Church. I have been running for 3 1/2 years. I started running just for some cardio to go along with my lifting but after entering a 25k trail challenge to see if I could complete it, I have been hooked on running ever since. I have run a few road races from 5k’s to 15k’s and 1 half marathon. On trails though, I have run 4-25k’s, 2-30k’s, 2-marathons, 1-25 1/2miler and 1-50k. My running goals are not only to keep getting quicker and more effecient , run longer distances and in the next few years enter and finish an ironman; but to encourage more people to go out and run and enjoy it.
My name is Jill Hazelton (37) and I live in Chambersburg with my husband and 3 children. I’m a Preschool Teacher at St. John’s Nursery School. I was a member of both my high school (Franklin, Pa) and college (IUP) track and field teams. Four years ago, after a long time away from the sport, I laced up my shoes and found my love for running again! I’m very competitive and you’ll find me running many race distances. I’m a Boston Qualifier presently training for the April marathon. I also enjoy quality family time, cooking healthy, crafting, and drinking coffee!

Bill Dann, I was born April 21, 1968.
Blah, blah, blah. I started running the Tim & Susan Cook Memorial 1 mile
race in about 2005. It travels a block from my house and I wanted to honor the
Coach Tim and his wife Susan. Each year my young kids and I would run this
race…and suffer for a mile. In the Spring of 2008 my daughter came home from
7th grade and said she wanted to run cross country in the Fall for the new
middle school team. She wanted to go to the local 2 mile fun runs sponsored by
the Chambersburg Road Runners Club. They are held at various HS’s in Franklin
County every 2 weeks during the summer. I began to run them also. I liked it.
Well…not really during the race, but later. By the summer of 2010, both my
kids were running cross country and track for the Chambersburg HS and I was
getting into several local 5K’s. By 2011, I really started enjoying running 4
to 6 days a week. I ran my first half marathon at Gettysburg in October 2011. 1:33:14. I liked it. Now my wife and kids all run. We run together sometimes. It’s just a part of
my life that I really enjoy; physically, socially, and mentally.
